I believe that if a world I’m creating has something relatable to our world, it helps make it more realistic. People know and understand the environment they’re in or have been in, so creating parallels in your own world helps people to connect. Do the available animals, trees, and materials necessarily have to be the same? No, but finding a way to relate a new species or plant life to something we’re already familiar with helps.
