When I build characters, I like to organize them by importance—primary, secondary, and tertiary—to keep everything clear as the story develops. My primary characters get the most detail, including a basic bio with their name, age, appearance, occupation (if applicable), and defining traits. Secondary characters are more streamlined, usually just name, age, their role in the plot, and a few key traits. Tertiary characters are kept minimal—often just a name and a brief description—since they serve smaller, more specific purposes. Structuring characters this way helps me stay organized without overbuilding roles that don’t need it.

What is your method for building characters in your stories?
